Workout Clothes Are Taking Over!

Here, There & Everywhere: Why Workout Clothes Are Taking Over!

It used to be a fashion sin to walk out of the house in a pair of stretchy pants or a track jacket – unless of course, you were en route to the gym or about to go for a run. Today however, activewear and cute workout clothes are increasingly being incorporated into the everyday wardrobe; functioning as everything from cozy loungewear around the home to easy pieces to throw on when you’re zipping around town to run errands.

With so many options of cute workout clothes, it’s no surprise that fitness brands are taking more and more cues from the fashion world – sometimes literally, by working in partnership with designers (like Stella McCartney for adidas) or by creating highly coveted limited edition versions of their products.

The actual textures, patterns and details of today’s cute workout outfits are also increasingly fashion-forward. For example, our  Black Mesh Yoga Leggings feature a super trendy and chic mesh inserts that are sure to make you stand from the crowd! You can wear these leggings to go to the gym or to just run errands.  Other unique finishes include rhinestones or glitter embellishments, prints sourced from famous graphic designers and distinctive embroidery, seams or cuts – like our super popular  One Shoulder Top that would look at home in the gym or even at the club.

While integrating fitness gear into your daily wardrobe provides a ton of benefits – like comfort, easy care and flexibility – there are some golden rules to keep in mind when tossing on your favorite cute workout outfit outside of the gym:

  • If you wouldn’t wear it to a gym class full of people, you probably shouldn’t wear it outside of the house. Leggings with holes at the crotch, I’m looking at you!
  • A cropped sports bra or a pair of tiny shorts probably isn’t appropriate for a trip to the grocery store, just as a long-sleeved hoodie probably won’t work for most fitness activities. Versatile pieces that can fool the eye into looking like ‘normal’ clothing – like a pair of the  Heather Mesh Leggings – work best.
  • If you’ve literally worn your cute workout outfit to the gym, be wary of how long you keep it on afterward. A trip to the smoothie bar or to pick up something for dinner on the way home is fine; spending the rest of the day running errands or meeting up with friends is not. Performance fabrics or not, your gym clothes will still carry a certain musky odor after a hard workout.
