Tips to Get Rid of Belly Fat

Let’s be honest! You are probably wondering how to get rid of that unwanted belly fat! One of the most troubled areas on our body is our midsection. Sometimes we give up on our fitness goals and dreams because we don’t see a six pack after a week of working out and dieting. Ha! How many times have you said or heard, “I just want to lose my belly!” or “I would love a flat stomach”. Well, let me tell you that there are many reasons why you aren’t losing that stubborn belly fat and here are some of them:

1) You aren’t exercising .

You can’t get rid of your belly fat from the couch. You can’t only dream of abs and hope to wake up with them (although, that would be awesome!). Only doing crunches, sit ups and wearing those “magic” belly bands won’t get you abs. You have to blast your body fat with moderate to intense activity (5-6 days a week for optimal results). You can run, jog, take kickboxing classes, Zumba, dance, go hiking, walk on the treadmill on an incline, take on a high intensity interval training program, etc. When you are lifting weights, make sure you are engaging your abs (pull your belly button to your spine and maintain controlled breathing). Get your sweat on!

2)You aren’t eating to lose weight .

When women hear the word “diet”, diverse thoughts and myths immediately come to mind. Fad diets and diets eliminating whole food groups are not sustainable. The quicker you lose the weight, the faster it will come back. Do not set yourself up for failure. Nutrition is a science and you need to research science-based material to help you create a meal plan if you can’t consult a nutritionist or personal trainer.

3) You aren’t eating enough .

The worst thing a woman can do to lose that belly fat is to think it will happen if she starves herself. Eating enough to fuel your body and your fitness goals will help you lose weight and that stubborn belly fat. When you don’t eat, your body will go into a catabolic state (break down muscle tissue for energy). Snack in between meals (almonds, apple and tbsp. of nut butter, etc.) to help keep your blood sugars stable as well as to help you avoid binging later on. Eat more and weigh less… isn’t that a beautiful thing?!

4) You aren’t getting enough sleep .

Sleep is incredibly important for the efficient overall functioning of your body. Sleep aids in the weight loss process, which as a result, will help you to lose that belly fat. Getting a good night’s rest will give you energy for the next day, which will help you to stay motivated to exercise and making smart food and beverage choices.

5) You are stressed .

Being stressed can hinder your weight loss progress. Stress causes your cortisol levels to rise, water to be retained (bloating) and most of all, it negatively impacts your overall wellbeing. When you are stressed out, use that energy in the gym.

6) You aren’t giving yourself enough time .

You can say goodbye to belly fat, but give it time. You have to put in the work, but if you do, you will reap the reward of that flat stomach/those abs that you have been working so hard to achieve. In the beginning, there will be trial and error; you have to find the foods, workouts and fit lifestyle that work best for you. When you find what fits, keep at it and you can finally say, “Bye, Bye Belly Fat”!
