10 Healthy Snack Ideas

Life can get pretty busy! So, if you don’t have the time to eat during the day because you have a hectic work day or you are super busy with the kids, start using snacks.
Snacks are a great way to fuel the body instead of allowing it to go into starvation mode (long periods of not eating) which is not healthy or fun. But hey! be smart when you’re snacking or you may find yourself adding too many calories and fat while not adding enough nutrients. These 10 healthy snack ideas are sure to keep fueled and happy:
1.- Raw Vegetables and Hummus
You can use carrots, slice peppers, mushrooms, cucumbers, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. to enjoy with a serving size of your favorite hummus. You can continue to mix the vegetables and hummus that you choose, so that this snack doesn’t get boring.
2.- Baked Apple
Simple and doesn’t include all the added sugar and calories of the traditional baked apples. Core an apple (Granny Smith or Fuji apples tend to work best), sprinkle on cinnamon, nutmeg or drizzle a little honey and place the apples into a microwave-safe bowl into the microwave. Depending upon your microwave, heat the apples up for about 2-4 minutes. Take them out and enjoy. If you didn’t put some honey on them, you can put a tsp. of nut butter on top if you’d like!
3.- Two Rice Cakes and 1 Tbsp. of Nut Butter
You can mix up for rice cake flavors as well as the nut butters that you use to make this snack even more enjoyable!
4.- Greek Yogurt and Berries (Yum!!)
Greek yogurt is a very popular snack choice for many women. If you buy the individual containers, all you have to do is grab it and go. If you have plain Greek yogurt, add a ½ cup of berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, goji berries, etc.).
5.- Protein Shake
This is a simple snack for women that need something on the go. Choose your favorite protein (whey, pea, vegan, etc.) and just add water, almond milk, or make a smoothie out of it (with fruit, ice, yogurt, etc.).
6.- Half of an avocado
This may sound silly, but having half of an avocado can truly be fulfilling. Avocados are a great source of fat. You can season is with Mrs. Dash or even just a little pepper. Simple, but delicious!
7.- Half of a Sweet Potato
Sweet potatoes are a common staple in many diets. Not only are they beneficial to your health, but they are yummy too! If you’re pressed for time, poke holes in a raw (washed) sweet potato and put it in the microwave. Once it’s done, top with cinnamon and enjoy!
8.- Almonds (about 12)
Almonds are a great source of fat and protein. It’s an easy snack if you are you on the go or don’t have much time to eat during the day.
9.- Slice of Ezekiel bread with 2 tsp of nut butter and ½ banana
Ezekiel bread has become very popular within the diets of those living healthy and fit lifestyles. You can have a slice toasted with your favorite nut better and ½ of a banana. Take it out of the toaster oven; the bread is nicely toasted to add a little crunch while the nut butter with the banana almost melt in your mouth!
It may not be the go-to snack for some women, but prunes are a great source of fiber. Also known as “dried plums”, they aid in digestion as well as are a good source of Vitamin K.
