Sarah: The Balancing Act
Posted on 27 July 2016
It takes a certain amount of skill to juggle being a full time Registered Nurse, having a social life, and staying physically fit. Sarah’s key to success? Balance. She says listening to what your body needs is the key to being happy and healthy. Sometimes that something is pushing yourself hard at the gym and sometimes it’s eating waffles and Nutella.
What is your name and age?
Sarah Hungar, 25
What inspired you to get fit?
Wanting to better my overall health and fitness! Achieve a body that I am proud of and exhibits overall health.
What keeps you motivated to live the healthy life?
Constantly setting long term and short term goals for myself, and having strategies to achieve those goals.
Describe yourself in three words:
- Friendly :)
How do you balance life, work, training and family?
It can for sure be a struggle at time to manage working full time as a Registered Nurse, staying physically fit and active and still having a social life, but it is all about balance. Being in tune with yourself and knowing when to push yourself, and when you need down time. It is the total combination of balancing different aspects in your life that will determine your overall happiness and health.
What is your favorite body part to exercise and why?
Favorite body part to exercise would be glutes! As it took me a while to form the muscle-mind connection for my glutes, but once I did, I was able to improve my overall shape and muscle definition in my glutes and hamstrings.
If you had to pick three key exercises - what would they be and why?
Key exercises would have to be:
- Shoulder press
- Back rows
These are compound movements that use a more than one muscle group. These movements also take a lot of practice and correct form is a must in order to achieve fitness results without having injury.
What is your favorite cheat “treat”?
Waffles !!! With nutella of cousre! Can't go wrong with some warm fluffy waffles with some fresh fruit and topped with nutella! Doesn't get any better than that!
What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in fitness?
Biggest misconception would be the fear of lifting weights due to the notion that you will become "too muscular" or "manly" looking. Women do not have the natural hormones to get too muscular looking by lifting weights. Lifting weight will increase muscle definition, strength and overall metabolism, as muscle burns more calories.
