Dana Tindal: A Role Model
Posted on 17 January 2017
Being a role model is the best motivation to stay fit - just ask Dana! Dana finds inspiration to compete and live a healthy, active lifestyle not just for the obvious health benefits, but to also inspire others on their own fitness journey!
What is your name and age?
Dana Tindal, 39
What inspired you to get fit?
I’ve always been a fairly fit person but was searching for a new challenge to further my healthy lifestyle and found inspiration in bodybuilding competitions- specifically the bikini division. I’ve competed in two shows so far placing second in the first show and first in the second. My third show and final for the season will in November.
What keeps you motivated to live the healthy life?
Besides the overall benefits to my health and the self-confidence that competing has brought, the opportunity to inspire others to be healthy and make changes for the better is very motivational. Being a positive role model to family and friends is very fulfilling and seeing the impact on people I’ve never even met in person on social media makes this lifestyle worthwhile.
Describe yourself in three words:
How do you balance life, work, training and family?
It can be challenging. I have a corporate job in Human Resources and family that lives a few hours away. When I’m prepping for a competition, it is hard for me to step out of that zone and focus on other things, but I’m slowly learning to. It definitely helps that my husband is not only my best friend and greatest supporter but also my coach who shares the same passion for health and fitness.
What is your favorite body part to exercise and why?
Glutes: Because every girl wants a good looking backside ;-)
If you had to pick three key exercises - what would they be and why?
- Bench Press and Squats: they are great compound exercises
- Bridges: for a bikini competitor a strong glute is very important- focus to find that mind/muscle connection with your glute and you will love the results of this exercise even more!
What is your favorite cheat “treat”?
I don’t really believe in “cheat treats” or “cheat meals” If I’m not prepping for a competition, you will find me eating a balance of clean healthy foods, with an occasional indulgence.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in fitness?
That lifting weights makes you look bulky or masculine. Resistance training actually accelerates your metabolism and can help promote a leaner physique as more muscle will utilize more calories.
What was the best part of wearing Affitnity? Did you love the clothing? Tell us why :)
Affitnity active wear fits me like a glove and the fabrics are very durable! When not at the office, I live in workout clothes. Affitnity offers a variety of colors and sports bra styles that are also functional so I can wear them during an intense workout or just around the house!
Anything else you would like us to know?
I am excited about this next chapter in my life with competing and look forward to continuing to look like a rock star in my Affitnity active wear!
