Alison Lackey: Getting Real
Alison Lackey knew she had to get down to business when her health issues prevented her from living her best life - and get down to business she did! She became a certified personal trainer and started her own successful personal training business!
What is your name and age?
Alison Lackey and I’m 41.
What inspired you to get fit?
After having my second child, I completely lacked motivation, became sedentary and unhealthy with food and exercise. I lost only 20 lbs of my 70 lb. weight gain post-baby. I was diagnosed with depression. A doctor’s visit was my epiphany. He diagnosed me with high blood pressure due to weight gain. I had to make changes transform my life!
What keeps you motivated to live the healthy life?
The pride in myself, my children, and helping others with personal training keeps me motivated!
Describe yourself in three words:
Hard-working, empathetic, and positive
How do you balance life, work, training and family?
It’s certainly a challenge but I make it work by going and doing, not just thinking about it. I make working out and eating healthy a priority even when I don’t feel like it!
What is your favorite body part to exercise and why?
I absolutely love shoulder workouts! They make me feel capable and strong. I was teased for my “big football shoulders” growing up, now I love them!
If you had to pick three key exercises - what would they be and why?
1. Push-ups: There are so many different ways to perform them. I feel strong doing them and they hit most muscle groups at once! 2. Jumpsquats: jumping safely and properly completely transforms your legs without gym equipment! You can’t beat the calorie burn either! 3. Single leg balance and stability moves: Often times we forget the power in improving our balance and stability for an active lifestyle. Working on your balance improves spine health, posture and overall core strength.
What is your favorite cheat “treat”?
My favorite cheat meal is sushi (lots of rice, rolls and sauces) followed by ice cream!
What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in fitness?
The biggest misconception is the false notion that lifting heavy will make you “bulk” or get bigger. To me, it is such an excuse!
What was the best part of wearing Affitnity? Did you love the clothing? Tell us why :)
Affitnity activewear has such great fabrics and a great fit! I absolutely love how the cropped pants hit your waist and hips. It is always a challenge for me to find pants that are neither too high nor too low. The cropped tops have amazing designs like no other brand!
