Jennifer: A Real Life Superhero

Life isn’t always easy as an ICU nurse. With 12 hours shifts and being responsible for taking care of the sickest people in the hospital, it’s easy to feel drained at the end of the day. Not Jennifer though. She maintains her positive attitude and high energy thanks to her three favorite things - staying fit, eating right, and lifting heavy!

 

What is your name and age?

Jennifer Springer 38 yrs

What inspired you to get fit?

I've always been active and enjoyed living a healthy lifestyle.

What keeps you motivated to live the healthy life?

I'm an ICU nurse working 12 hr shifts caring for the sickest people in the hospital. I see the long term effects of not taking care of one's self. It's very motivating to me. I want to be there for my family and I want to enjoy life.

How do you balance life, work, training and family?

It's difficult sometimes especially after the long shifts. On those days I usually pick one, either weight training or cardio. The best way for me to stay motivated though is seeing the results and the positive changes with my body.


What is your favorite body part to exercise and why?

Shoulders because I can watch them become very defined as I lift. I feel like one tough chick and it doesn't hurt to hear the positive comments from the guys in the gym.


If you had to pick three key exercises - what would they be and why?

My answer is nothing new. Compound movements are your best friend! 

*Assisted Pull-Ups to thank for my well defined back.

*Deadlifts and squats of any kind will work the posterior chain and give u a nice booty. Who doesn't want that?


What is your favorite cheat “treat”?

I was never a fan of peanut butter or Oreos before my first competition diet. However now I've become obsessed with them. Especially the limited edition Oreos. I probably have Ig to thank for that. All the pics of bodybuilders eating them with their cheat meals.


What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in fitness?

It's a tie between "lifting weights will make me bulky" and "to loose weight I must go on a severe calorie restriction diet". Fact: I lift heavy and I weigh about 112 lbs. no one has ever referred to me as bulky! Fact: to loose weight and put on lean muscle you must eat! I eat 6 meals a day but they are clean meals. You don't have to eat that often but you should cut out as much processed foods and drink as much water as you can. I drink a gallon a day.


What was the best part of wearing Affitnity? Did you love the clothing? Tell us why :)
I loved the way I looked and so did my friends and family. I wore an Affitnity outfit to my first photo shoot and when I looked at my pictures I felt real pride. First time in my life that I felt like a model.


Anything else you would like us to know?
Your clothes rock and I love them. I wish I could wear them all the time. I've had so many people ask me what I was wearing. Especially the one shoulder sports bra.

    You are a true inspiration! I have 2 kids and can’t seem to get the motivation or inspiration to workout. I just complain about my weight. I can’t kick the cravings and do nothing about it. Thanks for sharing your story!
